Ruth specialises in contemporary figurative work and portraiture.  She completed her degree in Fine Art (painting) in UWIC, Cardiff in 2004.  Ruth exhibits regularly both in the UK and abroad, including Welsh Artist of the Year (2008 and 2009), Islington Art House, London and in Vermont, USA as part of the Fibre Art Wales group.

Ruth works from her studio in old Butetown/Cardiff Bay.  Her experimental approach to painting using unusual materials in place of canvas and atypical substances such as varnish and resin has been a success, resulting in Moving Scenes, a well received solo exhibition in St David’s Hall (January 2009) funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

Ruth is fascinated by the layering of transparent and semi transparent glazes over the surface of a painting, and the interaction of these layers with the painted image underneath and light passing through.  She is currently working with a polymer chemist to explore the use of industrial resins as painting mediums for this purpose.
